I am pleased to announce that ANR’s 2012 competitive grants program will fund 16 projects, for a total of approximately $5 million over 5 years. The awards range in value from $46,226 to nearly $600,000. Last year we funded 19 projects with $4.46 million over 5 years.

Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to share some exciting news. The California Rice Research Board has agreed to fund a UC Cooperative Extension specialist position for six years.
This is a pioneering step in a new direction for funding public research. This innovative partnership between the agricultural community and UC Agriculture and Natural Resources recognizes the immediate importance of rice research and the need for this new funding model. I want to thank the California Rice Research Board for being the first.

Dear Colleagues,
Recently, Provost Pitts announced that he is undertaking an administrative review of all areas reporting to the Provost, including ANR. This review continues UCOP efforts to identify opportunities to improve business processes and efficiencies and to make optimal use of consolidated shared services in UC’s Office of the President by eliminating duplication. I have asked Associate Vice President Kay Harrison Taber to provide leadership for our response to this review. Kay’s knowledge of ANR’s unique operations and administrative needs is essential for the completion of this important task.

As previously announced in ANR Update (December 13, 2011), ANR will be soliciting proposals for CE advisor and specialist positions. This supplemental call aims to address programmatic gaps that were not previously identified or that have arisen since last year’s process.
